About us
1990
Air Service Berlin was founded in 1990 as „Ruppiner Air Service“ by Frank Hellberg and Steffen Wardin at the Fehrbellin airfield. In 2000, the company moved to the Tempelhof airfield, under the new name of „Air Service Berlin CFH GmbH“. After the Airport Tempelhof was closed, „Air Service Berlin“ moved to a seperate terminal at Schönefeld Airport, where it is based now.
1991
In 1991, Air Service Berlin developed a highly successful traffic monitoring for one of the biggest local radio stations. For the first time in German history, pilots presented the traffic program – which is still unique in Germany. Today, the Berlin based company works together with many successful radio stations in Berlin.
1997
In the autumn of 1997, Air Service Berlin bought a seaplane from Sweden. The red plane with the ID number D-EGUF takes off and lands on the river Spree, in the midst of the capital city. Air Service Berlin is the oldest seaplane company in the whole country.
2000
In spring 2000, after a long period of twisting and turning, the „Hi-Flyer“, the world’s biggest captive balloon, took off in Berlin. In the beginning, it ascended at the famous Potsdamer Platz. In 2006 the starting point was moved to Checkpoint Charlie, another widely-known tourist attraction. Moreover, the captive balloon was renamed “WELT-Balloon” – due to its new sponsor “DIE WELT”, one of the most popular German daily newspapers. Today, the balloon station in Berlin is one of the most successful balloon ride providers, offering the most spectacular viewing platform in Berlin.
2001
In 2001, Air Service Berlin bought a raisin bomber C-47 from the time of the Berlin Air Bridge. Thanks to this investment, Air Service Berlin finally became Europe’s biggest event airline company. The raisin bomber attracts thousands of visitors due to its historical importance. The old plane is currently being restored by the development association „Rosinenbomber e.V.“ with the help of donations. The employees of Air Service Berlin serve as volunteers at this association.
2002
In 2002, Air Service Berlin expanded its range of services and started offering helicopter flights. The helicopter is both used for touristic sightseeing flights and as a business shuttle. More than 7.000 people a year enjoy a helicopter ride above Berlin with a spectacular view.
The aircraft is also used for photography and film flights. The pilots from Air Service Berlin have many years of filming experience. Our red planes can even be seen in several documentary and feature films.
2007
All of our pilots have many years of flying experience. Our main ambition is to provide the highest quality of service. To meet our standards, we often work together with the “DLR”, the national aeronautics and space research center of the Federal Republic of Germany, and other commercial partners.
Our flight offers are just one part of our wide service range. We offer more than just a flight above the German capital city. We create a unique experience for our guests. With this strategy, Air Service Berlin became Europe’s biggest and most successful event airline company.
